Yes, I have a plan.

Yeah, so don’t mind my random train of thought in this post… 🙂

Hey, guess what? I’ve actually been running since I last posted–and it feels great! Okay, so running around a track at the gym (6 laps = 1 mile) isn’t the best, but I’ve been doing it. I’ve even managed to go to yoga a couple times. Score! And I’m waking up at 5:15-5:25 every morning to get some sort of exercise in. Crazy,  I know. I’m finding out, though, that I’m a morning person–at least Monday through Thursday. When Friday hits, I’m just dead tired from the week. My job is super high stress (as it always has been), which doesn’t help. I did change positions/responsibilities, which helps a little.

Anyway . . . Right now, I’m at this weird place where I’m loving running/exercising for fun. I know that my motivation will wane soon, however,  so I’ll be signing up for a 5k, which will take place in March. I’m helping my friend train for her first 5k (so exciting, by the way), so that is the perfect slump-buster for me. I’m also signing up for the Disneyland 10k on Tuesday (cross your fingers that I get in). And I’m hoping to run my first half marathon of the year in June. I’m taking my training slower this time around so I don’t get injured–I don’t need to recover from an injury as I’m working my way up to a marathon. I need to start half-marathon training soon if I’m going to be in really good shape by June 21. By half-marathon training, I mean working my way up to that distance agai n. . . because, remember, I’m back at square one. First stop is that 5k, and then I hope to run a few more races here and there in preparation for my half.

I’m going to be using Jenny Hadfield’s half-marathon run-walk plan to reduce my chance of injury. We’ll see how it goes. Oh, and check out her site for more great training plans!

Well, I hope ya’ll have a great week. Happy running/yoga-ing/cycling/whatever! 🙂

Back from Californ-i-a

Well, we just got back from a glorious week of vacation in California. We went to visit family for Thanksgiving and had a blast! There was fun stuff happening all the time, and it felt so good to just relax. You have no idea how much I needed a break.

How many miles did I run? Well . . . 3. But I’m totally fine with that. I’m not really training for anything. I’ll be running a 10K this Saturday with some coworkers/friends, which should be fun. We’ll see. Then it’s back to ramping up mileage and incorporating cross training so I can be totally healthy for my next half, which I’m planning for March. Woot.

Anyway, an abbreviated vacation recap is coming, but I thought I’d check in and let ya’ll know I’m not dead.

Did you get any good Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals? I certainly did, but I can’t reveal them since the Engineer reads the bloggity.

Anyone run a turkey trot? Almost, but I got lazy. Oh well.

p.s. Join Active GearUp and get great deals on workout gear. Right now, they’re having a sale on ProCompression socks for $24.95. Killer deal. I’m really liking the purple.

Running with the Cows

Today was the first day this week that I went running, and I really needed it. It’s been really crazy at work–actually extremely crazy. I guess in publishing you just can’t get away from the deadlines, but to me it seems I can run away for a little while and feel a lot better afterward. I ran 4 miles with an overall pace faster than average, which is awesome because it means that I’m getting better and–more important–that my foot’s getting better (and I’m well on my way to meeting my POTM goal). Because this route (and my place of work) is in the country, I got to run next to a herd of cows. Okay, so they weren’t running (do cows “run”?), and I was running past them, and they were in a field, and I was on the road next to the field . . . but it was still kind of fun. I didn’t take any pictures, but to give you an idea of what a cow looks like . . .

Moo . . . (source)

In other news, I’m thinking about running the Canyonlands Half Marathon in March. There’s a lottery entry, but two of my friends have guaranteed entry, and I want to run with them. Sigh. We’ll see. And I have another friend who wants to me to run a half marathon with her in January . . . not sure how I feel about that (the running, not the invitation to run). I definitely want to run another soon–and I’m definitely more obsessed than ever with running. Good stuff.

ALSO, The Engineer will be taking a yoga class with me when it starts up again at the local college in January. SO EXCITED!

p.s. Have you signed up for Lora’s fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy relief yet? It’s not too late! The fundraiser is almost at its goal of $1000. Tell your friends!
