Weekly Recap 12/4-12/8

Nada. Nope. Zilch.

And I’m not really proud of that. I did go to physical therapy on Monday, though, which was fine. So I guess I can say I exercised once this past week. I was still a little sore on Monday and Tuesday from the Winter Sun 10k, so it was kind of okay that I took those days off (right?), but I really don’t have an excuse for Thursday other than I had to work on projects at my job. And it was really, really cold on Saturday (and windy), and I didn’t wake up early enough, and . . . and . . . Okay, well, what’s done is done, and I’ll recommit myself this week. My goal is 3 workouts of varying distances. I might even suck it up and run outside in the cold (or go where it’s warmer–the treadmill at the gym). I might also even suck it up and run before work (gotta love 6:00 a.m. workouts).

In better news, however, I found some killer deals at TJMaxx on Saturday. I found two Lucy jackets (okay, same jacket in two colors) for $22 each, and some Nike Running skapris for only $20. Yeah, it was awesome. I told the Engineer they were some Christmas presents from him. Tell me you do that too!

What are the best deals you’ve seen this holiday season?

Weekly Recap: November 26-December 1

I got a few great runs in this week! Much better than the nearly two weeks I went with only running 6 miles altogether.

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: 4.5 miles

This was the first run I did after getting back from California (I promise I’ll write about the trip soon). My legs pretty much felt like lead, and I just felt out of shape. I guess that’s what only 2 3-mile runs in two weeks will do to you. 🙂

Wednesday: Off

Yeah, I really need to start cross training on my days off. I can’t wait for my Zumba and yoga classes to start up in January.

Thursday: 4.7 miles

This was a great run with one of my BRFs (that’s “best running friend” for those of you who haven’t heard that term yet). We ran at a comfortable pace and sprinted the final bit of the run. It was fun. We were gearing up for the 10K we ran on Saturday.

Friday: Off + physical therapy

Yeah, so I really do have plantar fasciitis, and there’s bunch of scar tissue on the insertion point of the fascia into my heel–hence the shooting pain occasionally. Enter, yet again, the need to do more strength and cross training.

Saturday: Winter Sun 10K in Moab, UT. (6.2 miles) Great race (recap to come soon). I ran this race with a few of my coworkers (we call ourselves the Blister Sisters) and had a blast. There was a killer hill at the beginning of the race that really almost killed us, but we pushed through it. I finished in 1:01:36 (apparently the official time, but according to good ol’ Garmin, it was a few seconds faster).  I really can’t believe I ran that fast. The next goal is sub 1 hour.

Total for the week: 15.42

How were your races this weekend?

Weekly Recap: November 5-11

Monday: No running.

Tuesday: I was going to go running but picked up the wrong bag and therefore didn’t have running clothes with me . . . So I didn’t run. Fail. And I decided that it would probably be wise for me to keep backup workout stuff in my car.

Wednesday: This normally would be a rest day, but because I didn’t run the previous day, I went for a 4-mile run. It felt okay. Not the best.

Thursday: No running. Running on Wednesday throws me off.

Friday: No running because it was snowing and quite treacherous by the time I got home.

Saturday: 5 miles on the treadmill. I kind of made up a progression run, which worked decently. I started out slow and gradually increased the pace until I was going pretty hard (for me) at about mile 3.5, then I slowed a bit to a more comfortable pace. I need to incorporate more speedwork into my “training.”

Sunday: Official rest day.

Total for the week: 9 miles.

Man, I really need to start cross training again! And I need to add another day of running/actually go running when I’m planning to do it. Overall, though, it was a decent week of running. I got some good runs in amid the craziness/stress that is my job. I don’t see any relief from stress anytime soon, though, unfortunately, so I have to make time to get after it.

What do you do to relieve stress (besides running)?
