I’m linking up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia from You Signed Up for WHAT?!, and Mar from Mar on the Run. This week’s Friday Five theme is What’s In My Gym Bag. This is such a fun theme!
I’m sure most gym enthusiasts have a lot of the same things as I do, but here are 5 6 important things I currently have in my bag:
- Lip balm (notice how I have two): You can ask my husband–I have so many different types of lip balm, it’s ridiculous. I’ve gotten them in stockings, in race swag bags, and because Chapstick has come out with a new flavor… Some people impulse-buy candy or shoes or whatever; I buy lip balm.
- Yurbuds: These are simply the best earbuds ever. I won this pair in a giveaway a couple years ago and they are still going strong. I have two pairs now, one that I keep in my bag and then some that are on standby for race action. (Also featured, an iPod Nano)
- Running shoes: I always keep running shoes in my bag, so if I’m at the gym and need to run or have planned a run, I have them.
- Hand sanitizer: Reasons for this are (1) it’s that time of year when germs are rampant, and (2) the gym is gross.
- Combo lock: For safety! There are locker-rooms at the gym, so I often stash my stuff in a locker and go on my merry workout way.
- Water bottle: Gotta stay hydrated!
5 Honorable Mentions
- Swim cap and goggles: If I happen to have a swim planned, I’m set.
- LUNA bar or Larabar: Delicious
- Hand towel: Great to have
- Extra socks: Sometimes these aren’t exactly clean socks, but there you go.
- Yoga grip socks and mat sanitizer: I hardly use the grip socks, but they’re nice when I do use them, and the mat spray works like a charm
FYI, my bag is an Apera Yoga Tote, and I love it!

Yes, I have a club membership that includes a gym and today I attended Yoga for the first time in forever. I hope I am not too sore for my 14 miles tomorrow! Snacks are always a good thing to include in any bag!
Isn’t yoga the best? I love how well it stretches everything. The first class after a break, though, is tough! Down dog is supposed to be a rest pose, but it just isn’t. š Good luck on your 14 miles! Boston’s getting closer, isn’t it? Are you excited?
Looks similar to my gym bag contents! Love Lara bars!
Aren’t they delicious! I have several flavors and love them all. I do have to say, though, that the cherry pie one is a little too tangy for me, but I love the chocolate chip ones!
I am pretty sure I can’t go anywhere without some lip balm in my pocket, and then there’s a tube in my car, by my bed, in my living room, and two on the desk in my office. My wife doesn’t understand, but when I saw those two tubes, I was like…yep, she gets it. I cannot even begin a workout with my lips being ready for the whole thing.
Right? Thanks for being understanding of my issue! I have one on the nightstand in my different bags, in my purse, on the dresser, in the bathroom drawer. I just hate having chapped lips! It makes me sad.
Oh fun game, Whitney! I haven’t ever heard of Yurbuds before. My gym bag also has all the essentials for a group fitness instructor, like a mic belt, windscreen for the mic, extra batteries and all of that good stuff. Happy Friday! Hope you have a fabulous weekend:)
Ashley, Yurbuds are the best. Check them our if you get the chance. They look weird, but they don’t ever fall out, and you can hear ambient noise. Thanks for carrying extra batteries! It seems that the mic batteries run out a lot during fitness classes! Have a great weekend too! š
I do have a gym membership! I’ll have to give the Yurbuds a try. I left my headphones at home today, and the dreadmill was not fun at all.
I hate it when that happens. Do give them a try! They’re the best I’ve used and the basic model (which I have) is fairly cheap at Target. Kind of expensive on Amazon, which is weird.
No gym membership! I use Yurbuds too!
How do you like them? They really have been the best earbuds I’ve used for working out and running.
LUNA bars used to be my favorite but I moved on to something with more protein and less sugar. I miss them! I definitely need Yurbuds. Everybody seems to love them. I’ve used SkullCandy for years. I still love running with my shuffle clipped on. You can’t tell it’s there and it’s so easy to change songs! Running with a iPhone is so much harder,
I basically used my iPod earbuds until I got Yurbuds and haven’t looked back. I really like the protein LUNA bars. I think they have like 12g of protein in 190 calories. The bars do have a bit of sugar, but I know I wouldn’t eat anything if I were short on time and didn’t have them ready to go. I’m a big fan of Larabars too–all real food and pretty tasty.
Love love my Apera and Larabar! I don’t have a gym membership but I’m visiting a yoga studio today. Maybe I’ll join š
I hope you enjoy your visit today! I love yoga. š
I opened up my purse one day and found 8 chapsticks….hello, my name is Sue and I’m addicted to chapstick š
What a fun topic! You look totally set to go! I do all of my workouts at home or outdoors so no gym bag for me anymore.
I wish I had enough room in my apartment to exercise! Someday, I will, I hope! I do love running outside, though, and prefer that to the gym.
I am all about lip balms in my bag (and pockets, and purse, and….)
I hear ya, sister. They’re everywhere around my house. š Gotta fight chapped lips!
i don’t have a gym membership but i go to pure barre 2-3 times each week. i LOVE larabars – discovered them late last year and now i’m obsessed with them š
Aren’t they good? š I love the chocolate chip cookie dough ones. I’ve never tried pure barre, actually, but a lot of people seem to love it.
