The Hale Freezes Over 5k on February 9 was a fun little the race in my town–a race that lived up to its name. It really was freezing, but thankfully they had prerace hot chocolate. 🙂
I was able to run it with the Blister Sisters! We all had a pretty good time even though it was really cold and there was ice everywhere. The race director was kind enough to let us know that the salt and ice melt that they put on the roads was freezing too. Lovely. The route had a couple bad icy patches that were hard to run over, but all in all it was pretty good. The only downside to the race route was a huge hill near the end of the race, probably less than a mile from the finish, which was not really fun when we had already run 2 miles. 🙂 The race packets were good. We got some samples and coupons and vouchers to the theater (the “Hale” in “Hale Freezes Over” is for the Hale Center Theater). Even though it was a small-town race, it was run really well, and I would totally run it again. I even got fifth place in my age group the time of 32 minutes. Like I said . . . a really small race. That would never happen–not yet, anyway.
So if you’re ever in town, check this race out.
